The Terrible Twats: Tory Shepherd, Betty McLellan and Michael Flood
Our friend from The Punch, Tory Shepherd, recently penned a one-sided article about Townsville's James Cook University refusing to stop one of its female lecturers from sexually vilifying men. The university's refusal to act on the matter led to the complainant, Dr Greg Canning, to quit his teaching position at JCU. Dr Canning reported colleague Dr Betty McLellan to the university after he stumbled upon the following passages in her opinion article, 'The Question on Nobody's Lips', which was published on radical feminist website, RadFem Hub:

"Even in the face of horrendous violence by men against women and children (Darcey Freeman; and Tania Simpson and daughter Kyla Rogers) along with allegations of high profile men raping and abusing women (Dominique Strauss-Kahn; Silvio Berlusconi); even with all the evidence we have that something’s not quite right with the male of the species, there is still impenetrable resistance to focusing on men’s behaviour and asking: what is it about men? It seems that the only people with the courage to ask that question are radical feminists.
So we have to ask: When the common denominator in most of the hideous violence that occurs in families, in society and globally is MEN, how come the right question is never asked? How come no one ever asks: what is it about men?"

Ms Shepherd's response was rather short and inaccurate:
"Dr McLellan wrote on radical feminist website RadFem Hub that in light of male violence and rape we should be asking ourselves what it is about men that leads to these behaviours."

Ms Shepherd did not see anything wrong with Dr McLellan portraying men as flawed creatures in need of a cure. Nor did she see anything wrong with Dr McLellan wrongfully accusing men of being the main perpetrators of domestic violence.

If Ms Shepherd was as intelligent, competent and knowledgeable as she seems to think she is then she would know that over 280 studies have found women are just as likely as men to initiate domestic violence and, women are more likely than men to use a weapon against an intimate partner. Reports from the Centre of Disease Control and Prevention have found women are the primary perpetrators of child abuse. These facts have been publised on Men's Rights Online and are accessible to anyone who takes the time to research the issue. That means Ms Shepherd is either a lazy journalist who failed to research the subject or is too biased and agenda driven to write a balanced article.

In contrast to the short summation of Dr McLellan, Tory dedicated a fair chunk of her aticle to Dr Greg Canning, labelling him a "men's rights extremist" and saying saying he works for a "hate site". The site she was referring to is A Voice For Men. Anyone who is familiar with AVfM knows it is anything but a hate site. There are strong views on AVfM, but those views are quite tame when compared to the hysteria and delusion that is abundant on websites such as RadFem Hub.  A review of the responses left under the comments section of Betty McClennan's piece is proof of it. For example, one of the commentators, who goes by the name sehkmet, said that men's violence against women is not studied:

"I would love to see a study on male violence against women. Unfortunately those statistics aren’t kept. This is one of the reasons that opponents of the Violence Against Women Act can say they can see no difference that the law has made."

Anyone who has been to the Australian Bureau of Statistics website will know that there are plenty of publications on "violence against women". Same goes with the Bureau of Justice (US) and Statistics Canada. Pretty much every Human rights organisation and community centre in Australia trots out statistics on "violence against women". Only a delusional idiot who lives under a rock would be oblivious to the fact that many studies about men's violence against women have been conducted.

But the insanity on RadFem Hug doesn't end there. Some of the women who responded to Dr Betty McLellan's article went as far as to say men are abnormal and not human.

"In the culture men are portrayed as either bungling idiots who can’t figure out how to boil an egg or else savage sexual predators with no self control. Rad/fems tend to reject these versions of men and expect them to be capable of taking responsibility for their actions, almost as if they were full human beings."

"It was clear to me as a child that there was something wrong with men, with men as a class. I learned this from observation, but also was taught it by what women told me. I was taught to be afraid of men as a young girl."

If that isn't a form of hate speech, then what is?

More importantly, why is Tory Shepherd not lambasting these delusional women?

In the article Tory Shepherd penned for news.com.au, 'Carnivorous men' versus 'lying bitches' in sex war, she refers to Michael Flood as a "gender and violence expert":

Gender and violence expert Dr Michael Flood, a senior sociology lecturer at the University of Wollongong who has had disagreements with Dr Canning and men’s rights activists in the past, said vitriol and extremism were rife online.
He said the false rape allegation claims were a standard way men’s rights activists tried to discredit rape victims.
"It ends up disempowering victims and protecting perpetrators," he said, adding that false rape allegations were rare and likely made as often by men as by women.

Anyone who is familiar with Michael Flood knows that he is not an expert on "gender and violence". The man routinely upholds outdated feminist theories on domestic violence, such as the Duluth Model, which has been well and truly refuted by over 280 scholarly investigations on domestic violence. In 2009, Michael Flood promoted feminist theories on domestic violence as the blueprint that any school-based program aimed at tackling domestic violence should be based. Floods' insane stance on the matter can be seen in the report, Respectful Relationships Education Violence prevention and respectful relationships education in Victorian secondary schools.

If Mr Flood's biased, ideologically driven stance on domestic violence isn't enough reason to steer clear of him when citing a neutral source, the fact that he tried to discredit a father's group by sending out offensive letters to members of the Australian parliament, disguised under the name of the orgainsation to make it appear they were unstable.

"I [Greg Canning] just want to preface this excellent article with our own experience with Michael Flood. He has on a previous occasion mis-represented himself as a separated father in order to unethically and fraudulently gain access to our resources that we had struggled to make available for the benefit of distressed fathers.
He then proceeded to misuse these facilities and send out offensive letters in the name of Fathers4Equality to every member of the Australian federal parliament, in an effort to discredit and undermine our efforts and reputation.
We conclusively tracked down this misuse of our facilities to Michael Flood, at his campus office at James Cook University. We then contacted him and confronted him with this misuse of such important resources for separated and distressed fathers.
He initially denied and refuted his involvement in these bizarre actions, but in the face of overwhelming evidence he finally accepted that it was his actions, and his alone, and he apologized for these unethical acts."
